Technically impressive, this game is the 'Asteroids' game of the Amiga 500.
The effect during the high score influenced a number of demo.

A bit too difficult perhaps.

Technically marvelous. Great GFX, music and sounds. However, the game suffers from being too difficult. So the only way to enjoy it is to play with a trainer because normally it's just impossible. Still, a great achievement by demoscene guys. Actually, I like the music and GFX here more than in Super Stardust. The music is really great and memorable and the hand-made backgrounds actually look better today than the dated 3D renders of the sequel. Additionally, the asteroids also look better to me - they look like pieces of rock here while in Super Stardust they look more like balls of goo. What Super Stardust had better however was the difficulty level which wasn't as impossible as in here and also the tunnel sequences were improved - but that's due to the power of the AGA chip. Oh, and last thing: I liked the bosses more in Stardust. There is no Cherook in Super Stardust unfortunately and it kicked ass.

Stardust technical and artistic features are nothing but fantastic. Too bad controls are not the best and the difficulty level is totally unfair. The game would require a lenghty training phase but I'm afraid the Asteroids-like dinamics are not enough to keep players intersted for long enough (6/10).

A good game for sure but not without it's flaws.

The ships inertia takes a lot of getting used to, and nearly all your deaths will be because you are fighting with the inertia, rather than actually being given the good controls to avoid the asteroids. This game is also Nintendo hard. Why did they need to make it so impossibly difficult.

The ravey style music while fitting for the time, has not aged well.

I'm glad to play this game as part of the EAB/Lemon compo but it's not something I would ever play outside of that.

Excellent game. Only thing wrong with this game is when using the passwords you always have to go through the tunnel stage.

I had Super Stardust too.

One of those games that is simply worth the loading time and then some. Outstanding. I'd love this title on my desktop for a quick play now and then.

Will definitely replace my bought copy with the emu version. I want to play this again. Hard as hell at times but soooo worth it when you get passed the tough point. Satisfying.

The amazing amazing Amiga at work here! Among my most favorite games ever, Amiga or otherwise. I agree the game is just Asteroids with many injections of things that make it really really better in every way. But most games are inspired by something or other and we don't worry about it do we?

Absolutly magnificent game! Audio-visuals don't need to be recommended because it can be easily seen on pictures while music will ring in your ears after one play. Excellent gameplay with stunning tunnel sections. Nothing spoiled here, everything blasting. Breathe of new life into old good Asteroids.

Tech skills over the edge for this Asteroids clone. Incredible visual and audio levels and a stunning tunnel section made this one a true milestone, at least for the technical side.

Ok! So it is "asteroids" maximized.. And what so bad about it? And " banshee" is "space invaders" with more colours etc etc etc ... The point is who didn't like this game? Just a few I think..

This garnered a lot of attention on it's release for the then jaw-dropping graphics, which still impress today. Even on a standard A500/600 it looked stunning but there was a catch - for all the bells and whistles it was really just Asteroids. And thanks to the PD scene, the Amiga had versions of Asteroids coming out of every orifice.

Admittedly it did introduce a lot of new elements including a fun 3D tunnel sequence, loads of enemy craft and the ability to select your level. In fact apart from a wildly fluctuating difficulty level there was really nothing wrong with it, yet for all the time and love that was clearly lavished on the game it was still just Asteroids. And when you could pick up a decent Asteroids clone for under a pound shelling out twenty on this just didn't seem worthwhile.

Have to agree with Ratso. The difficulty was up then down, then up, then down and some of those 3D sections were damn near impossible! Still, the lovely rendered asteroids were fun to blow to pieces and the backgrounds were pleasing on the eye when you had a chance to take them in!

The last game I bought for my Amiga, and the first game I ever saw that had ray-traced graphics that didn't look like painfully out of place. Incredible graphics and awesome gameplay. Its definately *not* just asteroids with pretties.

Super-slick, but the difficulty curve is all over the place.

A technically excellent finnish upgrade of Asteroids (and Blasteroids) that's great for short bursts of intensive gaming. Remarkably good looking tunnel sequences. Better than the later Super Stardust on the PC (which has CD-quality but inferior music).

If this is 'just Asteroids' then bacon is just dead pig. Instead of just shooting at asteroids you've got all manner of different enemies to face, each with tehir own secret subtleties, and the power-up system is balanced and advanced. Even without the tunnel sections this would be an excellent game, not only technically but on the gameplay side as well.

Superb! Probably the best shoot'em'up for OCS/ECS Amigas! I even managed to get "Ace of Space" ranking. Very, VERY rewarding game! It was always a great feeling when you beated the highscore. Graphics kicks ass aswell as catchy techno soundtrack. I still remember how amazed I was when I saw the 1st tunnel sequence for the first time. TOP STUFF!!

Asteroids... One of the very first computergames ever. A very simple concept, but much fun... At the time.
Stardust... This game really took my breath away at the time I first played this. Stunning visuals and good tunes. But this couldn't mask tedious gameplay. By the time this game got on the market computergames had evolved a lot since Asteroids and so did the people who played them. Even the sub-games didn't make it better. So technically this is one hell of a game and it's fun to play, but not for a very long time.

Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 8/10
Playability: 7/10

Overall: 7/10

An attempt (probably the best) to make old Asteroids game less boring. Great visual effects, but the game itself didn´t catch me.
